  1. Generic name: aspirin, buffd-calcium carb-mag

    This product is a combination of aspirin and an antacid (such as calcium carbonate, aluminum hydroxide, or magnesium oxide). The antacid helps reduce heartburn and upset stomach that aspirin may cause. Aspirin is used to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain from conditions such as muscle aches, toothaches, common cold, and headaches. It may also be used to reduce pain and swelling in conditions such as arthritis. Aspirin is known as a salicylate and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

    Common side effects

    • Dysgeusia
    • Constipation
    • Flatulence
    • Eructation

    Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur

    • Easy bruising/bleeding
    • Difficulty hearing
    • Ringing in the ears
    • Signs of kidney problems
    • Persistent or severe nausea/vomiting
    • Unexplained tiredness
    • Dizziness
    • Dark urine
    • Yellowing eyes/skin

    This drug may rarely cause serious bleeding from the stomach/intestine or other areas of the body. If you notice any of the following rare but very serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention

    • Black/tarry stools
    • Persistent or severe stomach/abdominal pain
    • Vomit that looks like coffee grounds
    • Slurred speech
    • Weakness on one side of the body
    • Sudden vision changes or severe headache

    A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

    • Rash
    • Itching/swelling
    • Severe dizziness
    • Trouble breathing

    Other things to note

    • Upset stomach and heartburn may occur. If either of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
    • If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

    Precautions

    • Do not use in kids less than 12 years
    • Best to take with food to lessen stomach upset
    • Take with 8 oz. liquid. Do not lie down for 10min
    • Do not take this medicine if it smells like vinegar
    • Do not use longer than label or doctor directs.
    • Call Dr if you have black stools or stomach pain
    • Call MD or RPh re. timing of taking with other meds
    • For tablet products : Avoid use in pregnancy from 20 weeks until birth. Use only in pregnancy and nursing if MD ordered it.

    Warnings

    • Take with food.
    • Medication should be taken with plenty of water.
    • Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication.
    • If you drink alcohol, discuss the safe use of alcohol while using this medication with your healthcare professional.
    • Patients regularly using NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen) and this drug may be at a greater risk for stomach bleeding and should consult their physician.
    • Immediately report bleeding or bruising to your doctor.
    • For tablet products : If you are pregnant or considering becoming pregnant you should discuss the use of this medication with your doctor or pharmacist.
    • For tablet products : If you are pregnant or of childbearing age, discuss the risks/benefits of this medication with your doctor and pharmacist.
    • For tablet products : Consult your doctor or pharmacist before breastfeeding.
