Server rooms are enclosed spaces that provide a central point for organizations to manage their network server resources. The design of these environments must take into consideration network connectivity and power, room temperature control and ventilation, room and rack security, and fire and seismic protection.

As with any data center, there are three core layers in a server room: computing, storage, and networking. The computing and storage layers consist of servers, which may be mounted on racks for easy access and to save space. The servers are operated remotely through the networking layer.

The main component in the room is a computer server that stores, processes and manages data, users, and applications for the organization. Other components include routers, racks, cabinets, network switches, and UPS among others for effective operations.
