A rammed earth wall is a wall built by forcing (ramming) a mixture of subsoil with gravel, clay, sand, silt, and a stabilizer (if any) into formworks. For a sturdy wall, these aggregates are mixed in the proportions of 30 to 40% clay soil and 60 to 70% gravel, sand, and fines before ramming.

Rammed earth walls are constructed by ramming a mixture of gravel, sand, silt and a small amount of clay into place between flat panels called formwork. Stabilised rammed earth adds a small amount of cement (typically 5–10%) to increase strength and durability. Rammed earth provides excellent thermal mass but limited insulation.
