May is designated as Wildfire Awareness Month, a time when the risk of wildfires is at the forefront of everyone’s mind as fire season begins to approach. Many fire departments use this time to educate people about preventing wildfires, getting prepared, and staying safe.

In many areas, May is Wildfire Awareness Month. As the weather becomes warmer and wildland vegetation, or fuels, begin to dry out, it is time to plan for the wildfires.

May is National Wildfire Awareness Month.

Wildfire Awareness Month (WAM!) is a multi-state initiative for western states to come together in raising awareness of wildfire – its causes, effects, ecological necessity, and prevention. Every year western governors, including our own Governor Bullock, issue state proclamations to declare May as Wildfire Awareness Month.
